TIPS and TRICKS |

Keep it simple. Don't use excessive graphics. They slow your pages' loading times down and people using slower modem connections will drop your page quickly. Why have a webpage if nobody sees it? I can't stress this enough. If your page takes too long to load, people will just hit their back buttons and go away.
America Online® AOL has been kind enough to provide a Webmasters' Info area, which gives you clues to writing your HTML to be compatable with the different versions of AOL Browsers. Since their service, now encompasses about half of everyone online, you may want to review the material on Browser Compatabilities. It will help you keep the surfers you get. I just spoke with a webmistress, who said that she's had a page up for a year, and just looked at it through an AOL browser. When she saw it through AOL, the page was totally black.
Use of Keywords Use keywords of up to sixty characters in your <TITLE> tag. Instead of <TITLE>Mary's Page</TITLE> make it count. Use a title that describes your page and uses as many keywords as possible, such as; <TITLE>Submissive Mary's BDSM Submission Gallery</TITLE> This will give you four words, one of which is the first word the spider reads, to bring up your ranking in the search engines. "Submissive, BDSM, Submission and Gallery." Also, make your first paragraph reflect as many keywords as possible. Make sure it is a legible sentence, but work in as many keywords as possible. Search engines pick up on these words and bring your ranking up. They will also pick up on too much repetition of one word and ban your page for spamming, so try to use each word only once. If you have images on your page, such as a picture of yourself, instead of naming the picture, in the alt tag, something like; "picture of me", you should use try using your keywords there. (ALT="submsissive, bdsm, submission, gallery")
Color Can Kill Your Ranking Be very careful, when designing your page, not to use the same color for your background color, as you do for your text. Search engines see this as a spamming technique and will drop you from their searches. It is usually best to allow the background color to stay neutral, use a colored text, that's easy to read and perhaps use a background gif or jpg. Search engines also see text that is reduced as spamming. To avoid this, you could use enlarged text as your first line and normal sized text for at least 150 characters, before reducing it.
Ready to Register Because of the manner that your subdomain is generated, you are given an advantage to how your website is registered with search engines. If your username were Spankme, your subdomain URL would be; http://spankme.mybdsm.com/ which can be registered with a multitude of search engines. However, because of the method we use to create your subdomain, you can also register that same page as; http://www.mybdsm.com/pages/spankme/index.html (or index.htm) which can be registered as a completely different page. There is also a third choice of; http://mybdsm.com/pages/spankme/ These second and third methods of registering, are also the only way that your meta tags and *true titles will be read by search engines like AltaVista. This will increase your standing in searches, because each registration picks up a different set of information. After you have registered your index page, you may wish to create other "entry pages." An entry page is simply a copy of your index or warning page, which encorporates different search keywords. Be careful here, to NOT use the same keywords or some of the engines will kick you for spamming. You can register this page as: http://mybdsm.com/pages/spankme/entry.html Keep in mind, however that http://www.mybdsm.com/spankme/entry.html will not work, because your main directory is created within the "pages" subdirectory.

Link Exchanges Another way to promote your site is with a "LINK EXCHANGE". Be careful when choosing a link exchange. Very few of them will actually SEND traffic to your site, while many of them will TAKE traffic FROM your site. The only link exchange, that has ever sent productive traffic to any of my sites, is GREENGUY's LINK'O'RAMA. Greenguy has a great sense of humor plus the sites are categorized so that you get the surfers who are looking for what you have, instead of just those which simply say "Adult Site" as your link. Do not submit a link to him, without reading his RULES page. One of his rules is that if you use frames, his site must break out of the frame. Since your subdomain is set up in a frame, the command for any of your pages will be; <a href="http://www.link-o-rama.com" target="_top"><img src="whatever-greenguy.gif" border="0"></a> If you submit a link that doesn't meet his criteria, you will not get a link and you've wasted your time, as well as his. Two examples of links to his site. *true title: The actual title that you gave the page, when you created the HTML document. It appears between the <TITLE> and </TITLE> in the head of your document.
