'Gor,' he said, 'is the name of this world.
In all the languages of this planet, the word
means Home Stone.' He paused, noting my lack of
comprehension. 'Home Stone,' he
repeated. 'Simply that.'
-
'In peasant villages on this world,' he
continued, 'each hut was originally built around
a flat stone that was placed in the center of the
circular dwelling. It was carved with the
family sign and was called the Home Stone.
It was, so to speak, a symbol of sovereignty, or
territory, and each peasant, in his own hut, was
a sovereign.'
-
'Later,' said my father, 'Home Stones were used
for villages, and later still for cities.
The Home Stone of a village was always placed in
the market; in a city, on the top of the highest
tower. The Home Stone came naturally, in
time, to acquire a mystique, and something of the
hot, sweet emotions as out native peoples of
Earth feel towards their flags became invested in
it.'
-
My father had risen to his feet and had begun to
pace the room, and his eyes seemed strangely
alive. In time I would come to understand
more of what he felt. Indeed, there is a
saying on Gor, a saying whose origin is lost in
the past of this strange planet, that one who
speaks of Home Stones should stand, for matters
of honor are here involved, and honor is
respected in the barbaric codes of Gor.
-
'These stones,' said my father, 'are various, of
different colors, shapes, and sizes, and many of
them are intricately carved. Some of the
largest cities have small, rather insignificant
Home Stones, but of incredible antiquity, dating
back to the time when the city was a village or
only a mounted pride of warriors with no settled
abode.'
-
My father paused at the narrow window in the
circular room and looked out on to the hills
beyond and fell silent.
-
At last he spoke again.
-
'Where a man sets his Home Stone, he claims, by
law, that land for himself. Good land is
protected only by the swords of the strongest
owners in the vicinity.'
-
'Swords?' I asked.
-
'Yes,' said my father, as if there was nothing
incredible in this admission. He
smiled. 'You have much to learn of Gor,' he
said. 'Yet there is a hierarchy of Home
Stones, one might say, and two soldiers who would
cut one another down with their steel blades for
an acre of fertile ground will fight side by side
to the death for the Home Stone of their village
or of the city within whose ambit their village
lies. 'I shall show you someday,' he said, 'my
own small Home Stone, which I keep in my
chambers. It encloses a handful of soil
from the Earth, a handful of soil that I first
brought with me when I came to this world - a
long time ago.' He looked at me evenly. 'I
shall keep the handful of earth you brought,' he
said, his voice very quiet, 'and someday it may
be yours.' His eyes seemed moist. He added,
'If you should live to earn a Home Stone.'

Thus spoke Matthew Cabot, father of
Tarl Cabot, and in one word summed up what Gor really is.
Home Stone. Gor is more then a fantasy
world of strong men and soft women, it is a frame of
mind, a willingness to follow your heart be you free or
slave.
If you have what it takes
to follow your heart, join us and be welcome. If you want
to play games this is not the place for you.....

What's new
at the Gorean.
- First and foremost,
we have a new address and new host in part. The
main pages reside here at MyBDSM.com, a web host
dedicated to the BDSM/DS community. The bulkier
files or those that require CGI or FrontPage
extensions are still on the hardlink site. So if
it looks like it is taking a little more time
then normal to bring up a page, it is because it
is changing hosts.
- The page has a new
look, I hope you like it.
- The guest book is
ready, and online, click
here to
leave your thoughts, opinions or just pass on
some words of wisdom so that others may see.
- There is now an
automated system so that you can add a link for
your site to my lists, to add your site to this
list go to the links page and click on "add
your site", it will open a new window for
the form. Once added there I will be checking
every so often and the true Gorean sites will be
placed on my links page, the others
. Well
you know what happens to HNGs.
- The first of the form
fields where you can join email lists is ready,
more coming soon.
- The interactive
bulletin board is up and running, for now it is
on Delphi, but I will be setting up my own on
hardlink very soon. You may post comments,
advice, suggestions or even just vent. It will be
moderated slightly so not all post will be
accepted.
That's it for now but
there will be more coming soon.
Upcoming additions
to the site.
- There will be some
major additions to the achieves, not as many as I
would have liked as there are quite a few sites
that are gone and the copies that I made went
with the hard drive that I had stolen a while
ago, don't ask, it is a long story.
- I am still hoping to
get all 25 books in electronic format so that I
can do some real research and maybe get the
dictionary fixed once and for all, it will then
have references from the books directly, no more
individual interpretations, not even mine.
Within these pages you
will find some useful information, tidbits of knowledge
and insight, but mostly a lot of interest.
- Lifestyle Philosophy - a place to learn the
philosophy for those who are truly 24/7. Email
instruction for slaves learning what it is to be
slave, masters learning to be masters. Here I
will not be dealing with IRC Gor, nor even with
the BDSM community. It is not about how to tie up
your slave, it is about how to live.
- The Archives - A collection of files
that I have found to be useful as well as
enlightening. Some of them have gone from the
web, but not all, and there is more to come.
- The Gorean Board - The goal of this board
is to have an open and hospitable platform to
exchange ideas concerning the Gorean lifestyle.
It is presently on Delphi, but I hope to soon
have one set up on my own site.
- The Gorean Dictionary - is a partially edited
version of the ones you find almost every where
today, I am in the process of cross referencing
it.
- The Gorean Links - are places that either
me or my slave nalani have visited and I have
checked each one to be sure that they are still
active.
- The slaves training pages - Done by the slave alika,
and well done. Although they still need to be
edited to weed out the incorrect data that has
creeped, (chokes here at the understatement) into
the IRC Gorean world, they do contain a vast
amount of what a slave should know to follow this
path.
